Wilderness Instructors are the people leading, inspiring, and providing a physically and emotionally safe space for our participants on our 5-15 day wilderness based expeditions. We are looking for backpackers, climbers, mountaineers, and other outdoor leaders who want to share their experience with young people. Wilderness Instructors typically lead a variety of trips in a variety of locations from backpacking on the Olympic Coast to a frontcountry camping trip that visits Mount Rainier. BOLD & GOLD Climbing Instructors take participants out into the wild to spend time on real rock! Instructors will set up routes, manage outdoor climbing sites, and work with participants to build climbing skills, all while helping to create leadership and social/emotional learning opportunities. Instructors with mountaineering experience may also lead expedition groups on Mt. Baker and up peaks in Gothic and Vesper Basin. Climbing Instructors often leas a mix of climbing, backpacking, and frontcountry camping trips.

Course Directors serve as a mentor and role model to participants and staff alike. Wilderness Program Course Directors oversee the delivery of 3-4 expeditions per week. This person is responsible for all educational and logistical aspects of those trips to ensure successful delivery of those trips.

Operations Specialist & Wilderness Instructor Positions

BOLD & GOLD Operations Specialists and Wilderness Instructors will spend time in the field on backpacking, frontcountry camping, or climbing trips and work as a member of our logistics team, helping other instructor teams prepare for their expeditions and working with participants during gear-checks and de-issues. This is a great role for someone excited to wear many hats and be involved both in field and behind the scenes operations of wilderness programs.

The Logistics Manager is the person is responsible for the management of our logistical systems that support 40-50 wilderness based-expeditions each summer. As a member of our expedition support team, this person will have the opportunity to learn about the behind the scenes work that goes into leading a successful expedition. The Logistics Manager will work closely with our Operations Manager and Logistics Coordinators to ensure that all of the programs have the proper equipment and food for a successful trip.

Logistics Coordinators are part of the engine that makes BOLD & GOLD run! They are people with a passion for working with youth in the outdoors and are looking for an opportunity to learn more about what it takes to be a professional. As a member of our expedition support team, Logistics Coordinators will have the opportunity to learn about the behind the scenes work that goes into leading a successful expedition. Logistics Coordinators will work with our Operations Supervisor and Logistics Manager to ensure that all programs have the proper equipment and food for a successful trip. Additionally, Logistics Coordinators may have the opportunity to step into the field to learn from our incredibly talented Wilderness Instructors.

The Participant Support Director is the line of communication between families and BOLD & GOLD. They reach out to participants before their trips to share their passion for the outdoors and answer questions.

As a member of our Leadership Team, the Participant Support Director shares information with our Instructor Team to help young people find success on their trips!.

Learn from Mother Nature herself in this one-of-a-kind internship with BOLD & GOLD. As you gain quality, hands-on experience in outdoor programming you'll also play an integral part in shaping the lives of a diverse, young group of students with every expedition. Internship will take place from mid-June to late-August with trips ranging from 5-15 days and may include additional projects or support depending on the position and needs of your internship program.

Must be a senior or graduating senior from college.

BOLD & GOLD Internship Positions

BOLD & GOLD Mini-Bus Drivers support our programs by driving YMCA Mini-buses (14-passenger) to drop off and pick up trips for their adventures. Mini-Bus drivers work part-time primarily on Saturdays and Sundays and sign up for the drives they are able to support. Driving destinations can include North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, Mount Baker, and others. Some drives include an overnight component where drivers camp at a campground with the group they are driving.
